  • how do you know if you have mono? and wow...at least it is at the beginning of the year, before classes start, right?...as opposed to finals or whatever. good luck with that.

  • i'm not lurking, i swear. i just recently rediscovered your lovely spot in blogworld, and... mono? how severe? how do you feel? (i have many questions.) i hope you're well, considering, and please write/post/call/tell me it's ok to call if & when you're able. lots of love.

  • well, i know i have mono because my throat hurts so much i can barely swallow and i have a fever and no appetite. and the culture was negative for strep, which is what i assumed it was. and i guess my spleen is swollen.

sylvia, i lost yr new address. i thought about sending something to your parents' address but i haven't yet.

  • egads, that sounds awful. can you eat fake chicken soup? you need some vegetarian chicken soup...and some garlic and olive oil. and some ginger ale. and a crap-load of nyquil. and you should drink plenty of water (not fluids, but water). and sleep as much as possible. and wear warm clothing. try not to move around too much. don't go into changing temperatures (like from 70 degrees to 90 degrees). do you have a teddy bear? if so, you should hold it.

I think that is all the advice off the top of my head.

  • Scheisse! Take care of that spleen.

  • roger wilko (is wilko the correct spelling?)...hm...spleens are important, I spose.

  • I often forget what spleens are for, but I hear you miss them when they're gone.

In the hopes of positive distraction, recipe randomness I got by hitting the "next blog" button: a Turkish recipe for some kind of corn meal biscuit.

  • the spleen cleans out dead red blood cells from your body. maybe it does something else too. you can be fine with no spleen--for example, dave doesn't have one. but what you do NOT want is for it to burst because then you will be bleeding internally. ouch.

i am taking care of myself. plenty of water, plus coca-cola when i need a good throat scratching. i ate a real meal for the first time last night and i ate a whole 6" sandwich from subway today. it was a day old, which is why i could eat it. it was good and soggy. i can't eat anything that has chunks or crust or any kind of crispness because i hack and hack and wish i were dead. mono makes you lose your appetite which is why i'm actually celebrating the fact that i ate something. i hadn't eaten anything but sorbet, one scrambled egg, and some broth with tofu since saturday. i kept making myself food and then throwing it away because i couldn't even look at it.

and you know i think it's a sin against god and nature to waste food.

    home is awesome. :)

  • Big bucks, no bursting, no bursting, big bucks, no bursting, STOP!

You know, I should've known that, because I not only knew about Dave, but I dated a girl with no spleen. She wasn't supposed to drink, but she did.

Sounds like a good time to stock up on ice cream, pudding, Jello, frozen fruit bars, and so on. When you're sick, who's going to tell you you can't eat dessert all the time?

  • ack! you need to eat!...eat things with little flavor, but whole chock-loads of vitamens...do you have those vitamen drinks or something? vitamens! worry worry.

  • see, in chicago i would have had to walk to the grocery store and my only money was a borrowed (NOT stolen) credit card....even though i recently met someone who would be more than willing to bring me things. more on that later.

but now i am home, with mommy and daddy to take care of me! and we went for chinese food and i ate two rice pancakes with mu shu vegetables. and today i had half a pita, hummus, and tomatoes.

besides, i figure i could probably live up to a year without food if i had to. the female nine months' worth plus my little bit extra. :)

  • no, your kidneys would shut down before that. but, lord! I am glad you are eating food again. yay! and that sounds like good food too. good.

  • Borrowed credit card? Therein lies a tale...

By Blogger Bigtooth, at 8:34 AM

  • it belongs to mom.
