  • woohoo!

i will be bringing mine (boyfriend, that is). that means i probably won't be as untethered as i would have liked, but i suppose that's a good thing. i'm excited to show him the old haunts.

also, i lied a little about staying in the dorms. i haven't actually made the reservations yet -- i'm held back by the idea of communal bathrooms and plastic mattresses. i might look into cheap hotels in vernon, but it really all comes down to money. we'll see.

i will be bothering you frequently over the next couple months, i'm afraid, so get ready!

oh, this is a little random, but i was thinking about things i never did at kenyon that i kind of wished i had, and the friday parish house lunches came to mind. did you ever go to one?

also, what are you going to do about food? (i know, two months away and i'm already planning around my stomach.) i see myself buying those cafeteria tickets and then going to lunch at the deli or vernon and never using them. thoughts?

    sylviamaya[at]gmail.com, if the urge strikes.

    the countdown begins! love you!

  • Okay, here's my generalized advice, which is sort of a reply to Sylvia, but also to ms. bipolarity, or whomever...

As this will be the 4th (wtf?) reunion I've attended in the last 6 years, and the third year in a row, my advice is to not buy the lunch tickets (just the saturday night class dinner ticket, which is nice and will sell out). If you do decide to eat in the dining hall, you can buy a meal ticket at the door. But I always eat at the deli or something anyway.

I am going to stay in the dorms. It's not so bad. Just come prepared...it's always really cold at night, and they shut the heat off. I brought my electric blanket last year, so I didn't freeze to death. I've known a few people to not stay in the dorms, but they usually ended up doing so anyway when it was 3am, and they didn't have the energy/sobriety to drive back into Vernon. So I'm pro-dorm, at least when it's only going to be for a few days. Also, it's super-cheap.

Are you guys buying tickets to the Saturday night class dinner?

And Root and I have moved up our arrival, so that it should be sometime that Thursday afternoon. I think around dinner time.

I'm sure I have more to add to add on this topic, but for right now I need to, you know, do my job for a while. I am also available for e-mailage - bellianj AT gmail.com.

  • I think you should bring him if he wants to come. It would be awesome to meet the mysterious one.

  • okay, if everybody brings their significant others, i am the big loser. you all suck. :P

  • i love that becky's guestbook has become a reunion message board of sorts.

don't worry jess, brad can hang. :) the significant others shouldn't affect our quality time.

ok, so the dorms it is. and no cafeteria tickets will be bought -- although i will get tickets for the class dinner, seems like the thing to do.

do any of you guys know how the housing will be distributed? i know they're putting us in lewis and mather (right? neither of which i've ever been in, i think). but do we pick our rooms, or will they be assigned? i might have a problem if i'm housed next to, say, brian auchterlonie. am i being too anal here?

ok, that's all i have to say for the next five minutes, at least. i'm passing the mic.

  • if you get housed next to auchterlonie, we are going to have to trade rooms, because that is one hot--

ew, i can't even joke about him.

i don't know how they assign the rooms, because in the past i haven't reserved, just shown up and got stuck with whatever is left over (bad idea). today i sent an e-mail to the woman who is in charge of things, asking her some questions, and one of my questions was about room assignment. so i'll let you know what i find out.

last year the people housed next door to me (in mcbride) had small children, and one of them puked in front of my door. that was nice.

  • Okay, response from reunion lady partly reads as follows:

"As far as housing is concerned, I assign dorm rooms as
registrations are received. You can also make a note on your registration form that you would like to be housed by your friends and I'll do my best to accommodate you."

So we can be assured to be Auchterlonie-free*. I will list all your names when I register, which I think I will do tomorrow.

*I hope Auchterlonie never googles himself and comes up with these comments. Or maybe, I hope that he does. Hmm.

  • well, i just googled the evil one, and although he makes some interesting appearances throughout cyberspace (apparently he is still brainwashing impressionable youngsters, but has turned it into a career), this guestbook is not among them.

jess, you rock. i will list you guys, too. it'll be the housing block i never had. yay reunion! ;)

jess & becky: why aren't you on myspace, dammit?

me = tired & rambling. bed. sleep. now!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:29 PM

  • Actually..I am on Myspace, but I never really use it. I've been thinking lately that I probably ought to, because I'm dangerously out of the loop by not participating fully. I think my profile will show up if you search my name... Maybe I'll update it and get some friends.

Anyway, I just googled He Who Cannot Be Named, too, and duuuude...he's all over the place. I'm so frightened.

And, also...Hi, Becky!! Thanks for letting me fill your comments with comments!

  • fyi...i am now registered for thursday, friday, saturday nights, and the class dinner. i put down all your names to be housed nearby. :)
